It must be great to share a passion such as flying with your father! I have no doubt that you really respect and appreciate the man. Enjoy spending time with him, make time if you have to. Time goes by quickly and soon it is just a memory. Well then…
The 3D pics are great. Please do post the drawings as you go along . Technical drawings are one of my passions that I never got around to making a profession of!
Hi Alf when first I saw the shape I said it has to be a Bolly. Are these the same guys that make the props for model areoplanes , I have been aeromodelling for many years that is why the shape looked familiar. I am glad to hear that you have so much…
Hi Tjeerd, I thought the old man looks familiar! Does he still stay in Knysna? If I am not mistaken he used to be the MD of the George Mercedes Benz dealership, many moons ago. I have seen him around town a lot.
HI Chris, I holiday in kysna every September and I have been looking for an airfield to come to. Looks like I've found it! I think I've seen you flying over the lagoon before, your wing looks familiar. We used to take our boat and watch the Choo Choo every day. I have fond memories of it! Ross
Hi Ross, great to hear from you. I am not quite sure which airfield and bridge you are referring to but I will try and get a Google Map picture for you to check out the spot.
You are correct, I fly from High Way Airfield approx. 20 km out of Knysna - about 20 minutes drive from my home, very convenient indeed. We do not have an airfield close to the railroad. The Outeniqua Choo Choo as it is known, rubs no more as the railroad was very badly washed away in various places about 2 years ago in very bad floods that we had. The worst damage is in the Sedgefield - Swartvlei area. Apparantly the cost to restore it will be in the 10's of millions, which means we dont expect to see ot run ever again.
We currently have 7 trikes and 8 fixed wing planes hangered on the airfield, owned by Whisper motorglider pilot Warren Rosewall.
The picture of Stanley Island which you you will see on my page is at Keurboomsriver just east of Plettenberg bay, wiyh the N2 bridge running past in the north.
Your welcome to give me a call that we can chat, my number is 082 451 2518
I'll try to send you some google pics or maps
Cheers

Hi Chris. Where are you based? It looks like the Knysna/Plett area? Could you please tell me where the airfield with the bridge the Outiniqua train runs along in the background is? How do does one get there? Can you get there via boat? Thanks

Hi Darryn
I sincerely hope that you will be very happy here. I like the idea of RSA Tour! The "Western Cape Tour" has to be first. It always helps to fulfill these dreams if you have other guys that you can enjoy it with.
There may be a great Trike available for you in Knysna. If you are still lokking, I can let you have contact details of the seller, let me know.
Chris, just moved to SA. Haven't flown much yet but planning to buy a trike and start flying around to explore Southern Africa. In the UK, we'd all plan on a Rally Round Britain. Some of it is for charity, but was also an excuse to go flying evey day to places you had never seen before. Because weather is so variable, you rarely went back to the same places the next year. We should have a Fly SA every year, although we'd have to do a province each year as SA is so big.
