I soloed at the age of 16. In the 70's my family owned a 1952 Cessna C-170B . I advanced to a Commercial Pilot Certificate and added a Flight Instructor rating
14 years ago. We acquired a DeHavilland DHC-1 Chipmunk, a primary trainer for the British military in which I learned basic aerobatics. The Bucher BU-131 was the ultimate aerobatic mount in the late 40's and early 50's, and still considered one of the best flying aerobatic aircraft available. In preparing for these aerobatic
thoroughbreds, I received dual aerobatic instruction in 1987 from the then reigning National Aerobatic Champion Clint McHenry. This training was done in a a 260 HP Pitts S-2B. One entire hour covered just spin recoveries : accelerated, inverted and flat. I fly a Grob 103 high performance sailplane. Currently I have 38 years of aviation experience, with a broad background in antique/classic and tailwheel aircraft.
I am rated in gliders and seaplanes as well as a basic aerobatic competency. I recently got a chance to fly a paraglider in the Colorado Rockies.
